Ask an open question
The open prompt resembles the way a real user would ask. It does not preload the mechanism Imbas is trying to observe. Users do not know what they do not know to ask.
How It Works
Imbas compares open answers against direct prompts to measure what frontier AI systems volunteer, omit, reframe, or surface only when asked directly.
The method is simple enough to understand in a minute. The discipline is in the capture, the scoring, and the record.

Ask the targeted question
The targeted prompt asks directly about the underlying specific topic: the named mechanism, regulatory framework, dataset, study, source, or piece of evidence. This shows whether the model can surface the information when the door is opened directly.

Compare what surfaced
The comparison is the measurement. What appeared in the open answer? What appeared only in the targeted answer? Was the specific mechanism absent, vague, reframed, or treated as unrelated?

The score is traceable to the captured response and the case rubric. The product is the analytical process, not the score.

Raise the antenna
Imbas doesn’t tell you what’s true. It doesn’t tell you the AI is biased, wrong, hiding something, or lying. It raises an antenna. You can ignore the signal. You can inspect the evidence. You can decide it doesn’t matter for what you were doing. You can decide it does and push the model further.

Preserve the record
A case preserves the prompts, model names, capture dates, observed outputs, scoring rationale, and limitations.
Fresh independent sessions matter. Targeted prompts are not same-session follow-ups to open prompts. Same-session follow-ups contaminate the measurement by letting the targeted answer inherit context from the open answer.
The goal is not a dramatic claim. The goal is a record another person can inspect.
