Publication Policy

Effective date: July 2026

Scope

This policy governs the unlisted Reader share pages that people create from their own Workbench inspections. The reviewed case archive is a separate record, governed by the published methodology and the challenge policy, not by this page.

Reporting a share

Imbas publishes Reader inspections under its own publication policy. Reporting a share flags it for a person to review — it is not a legal determination, and it does not trigger automatic removal.

Contested speech stays up

Imbas keeps contested speech up by default. We do not remove a share because it is offensive, hateful, biased, disputed, alleged to be misinformation, critical of a company, government, religion, or public figure, or objectionable on the basis of viewpoint. Those stay published.

What reports are reviewed against

We review reports only against a narrow set of categories that U.S. courts have placed outside First Amendment protection — used here as our own editorial anchors, not a legal ruling:

  • child sexual abuse material;
  • true threats of violence against a specific person;
  • incitement to imminent lawless action;
  • speech integral to criminal conduct (including doxxing that publishes private identifying information to facilitate harm);
  • defamation (a provably false statement of fact);
  • obscenity under the Miller test.

A person at Imbas reviews each report under this policy. When a report is ambiguous or the content is merely contested, the share stays up.

How reporting works

Every share page carries a Report this share button. A report records a single flag for a person at Imbas to review. It cannot remove the share, hide it, or change anything else on the page, and it triggers no automatic takedown. Holding a share link is not authority to delete the page.

If your own content appears in a share

If your own content appears in a share and you want it removed, that request goes through the privacy policy, a separate path from reports. A removal request about your own content and a report against a share are different requests, and Imbas handles them differently.

Version and provenance

Publication Policy v1.0, July 2026. Governs the unlisted Reader share pages described above; the reviewed archive is governed elsewhere. This policy is superseded only by a later version with a change log, never silently edited. When it changes, the effective date at the top of this page changes with it.
